The Library, Delivered

Not everyone can easily visit the library—but everyone deserves access to what it offers.

The Waukee Public Library’s outreach van brings books, resources, programs, and personal connection directly into the community. It helps the library reach older adults, families with transportation challenges, children and caregivers, people with limited mobility, and neighbors who may otherwise be unable to visit the library.

More than a delivery vehicle, the outreach van is a bridge. It connects people with opportunities to read, learn, explore technology, participate in library programs, and feel included in their community.

Why It Matters

The outreach van helps:

  • Bring library materials and services closer to underserved neighborhoods
  • Support older adults and people with limited mobility
  • Encourage early literacy by reaching children and families
  • Reduce transportation and accessibility barriers
  • Connect residents with technology, information, and community resources
  • Create meaningful moments of conversation and belonging

When the library goes beyond its walls, more people can benefit from everything it makes possible.

Help Us Keep Waukee Connected

Support from the Friends Foundation helps expand the library’s reach and strengthen its impact. Together, we can help ensure that every member of our growing community has the opportunity to discover, learn, and belong—wherever they are.

FOUNDATION FUNDS MOTHER’S ROOM RENOVATION

The Waukee Public Library Friends Foundation funded the transformation of a former small children’s restroom to a new mother’s room at the Waukee Public Library!

Library staff noted a greater need for a mother’s room as they see many new moms in the community visiting the library. Staff members have also been welcoming new babies. It made sense to convert the existing bathroom into a dedicated mother’s room for nursing, diaper changing, or quiet time.

New paint, furniture, and a change to the sink now make this space more welcoming and useful for families. If you need the mother’s room, you can find it in the children’s section near the audiobooks.
